Ad astra per aspera! The Kansas state motto “through hardships to the stars” lives on through each of the KARL Fellows and current Associates. Here we are in another year. Happy 2021! Like most of us, we suspect you’re glad it’s here and we will make the best of it.
Every new year brings the promise of better days ahead, along with opportunities to continue good practices, rid ourselves of bad habits, accomplish a personal goal, or otherwise improve our lives.
KARL is always seeking ways to improve and advance our purpose-driven mission efforts for agriculture and a better Kansas.
Even though limited face-to-face contact has resulted in a delayed schedule for the current class, our goal is to create a roadmap for impact and progress as we move forward, looking from every angle to better serve our communities, state, nation, and world.
We’ve gotten great feedback so far from alumni who’ve responded to our survey. If you haven't responded yet click below. https://kstate.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_eVXqVyK4FCDk9qB
Resolution experts say behavioral change success depends on readiness to change, commitment to change and confidence in yourself and your plans. These are also true for our continued efforts to strengthen our longstanding tradition of delivering a quality leadership experience and the planning we will do this year for a stronger rural Kansas. Our mission to identify and cultivate the next generation of leaders is vital.
Here’s to a very happy, safe and prosperous new year! To the stars.

"Participating in KARL has not only increased my understanding of the current issues many communities in Kansas are facing, but has also heightened my awareness of the importance of community involvement and the ripple effect it can have on Kansas. From visiting with individuals who are intentionally making investments (financial, time, and/or resources) within their communities, I have been reminded time and time again that it is bold citizens who are committed to creating change for the better. Through these KARL interactions, it has helped me realize that these bold citizens are ordinary Kansans who desire to address issues to improve one's community. KARL has challenged me to think differently and has connected me with other people and resources that can help me transform my community. Through collaboration and meaningful partnerships established through KARL, I can help others transform their communities as well. I believe KARL serves as the conduit that sparks action for positive change in Kansas agriculture and rural communities by providing the tools, preparing people and connecting other changemakers. Through KARL, I have come to the revelation that by taking bold steps to help my community, I can also help other communities as well; and for that, I am thankful." Kim Baldwin, Inman, KS
