Values. Integrity. Perseverance. These are three words that resonate with Kansans who resolve to lead. Even though we undoubtedly do not know how long any current crisis may be with us, we can say with certainty that it will pass. Will things look the same before whatever comes next? Likely not. We continue to work to achieve mission and vision.
Adaptability becomes a vital tool in these extraordinary times and KARL is unveiling its new look. A refreshed logo will anchor the evolution of the Program for legendary rural leadership.
We invite the KARL Network to explore the new look, updated programming, and networking opportunities evolving with our associates. Check out the NEW LOOK and VIDEO.
Part of this legendary leadership effort means we draw on a wealth of values, skills, and resources. Longstanding and new partnerships help bring new things to the table: The Gettysburg Leadership Experience, a study in civil discourse, the importance of “ruralpreneurship,” techniques for communication and engagement through Dale Carnegie of the Heartland and the timeless “How To Win Friends and Influence People,” exploring critical infrastructure, and Dauntless Leadership for individual assessment and management.
KARL was built to serve rural communities and agriculture. Rural leadership is our heritage and exactly what we have been doing for decades. We’ve taken a proven leadership program and refreshed the way we look at not only leadership, but the challenges facing rural Kansas and the agriculture industry.
NOW is a time like no other to grow our next generation of legendary rural leaders.

The KARL program helped me see the importance of truly getting involved in a local 501(c)(3). I was on a board previously but had not been actively doing my part. KARL inspired me to start and lead a fundraising committee as a part of that board and has generated a lot of excitement about the opportunity to make a real impact on the children in our community not only today but for generations to come.
KARL also showed me the importance of getting outside of my comfortable circles of people I work/interact with on a daily basis. In my community there are over 40+ languages spoken & it continues to grow more and more diverse, however in the past I hadn’t made a concerted effort to engage with others like I should. As a banker, I’ve now made it a point to call on business owners in town that are from other countries to see what ways we can help their companies continue to grow. At the grocery store I now look for ways to just even say hi to those around me, because I truly believe being kind to your neighbors is one of the easiest things to do but yet one of the last things we do these days. Ultimately our differences (home countries, languages, religions, race, gender, etc.) are what unite us and make our community so special & KARL has shown me that it is our responsibility as leaders in our communities to be inclusive and engage with those around us.
Overall, the KARL program has generated a lot of excitement around application for me and the curriculum really promotes that. In the past I think I’ve treated educational programs as something similar to entertainment but KARL has provided me with the tools get my boots on the ground and put learning into motion in my community. I feel completely undeserving of the opportunity to be in the KARL program but I’m so grateful and it has and will continue to change my life for the better.
