JUNE 2020 A Message for KARL Alumni and Friends
Can you identify these legendary rural leaders who continue to serve Kansas agriculture and rural communities?
For nearly 30 years, you’ve supported the KARL Program and for that we are truly GRATEFUL! Your continued belief is a testament to the values and principles that are time-tested and critical as we in agriculture and rural Kansas move forward in spite of the challenges brought by COVID-19. Like agriculture, the KARL program must continue to grow, evolve, adapt, and demonstrate resilience. This is a responsibility that we don’t take lightly, and we are committed to advancing, enhancing, and growing a network of alumni who even during the darkest times have the ability to work for the greater good.
During the most recent KARL Café, with Dr. Vincent Amanor-Boadu, a lively conversation ensued about how we can best influence our local communities during this time. It was deemed that leadership is essential, and good leadership can and will permeate all levels of your community, organization, work, and homes which eventually determines overall successes. While we may not be able to control all things in our environment, we can make a difference through community engagement.
Our alumni are more than 400 strong and are often the life-blood of their homes, communities, and work. So lean-in and connect with those in your KARL network. Working together and helping each other, we will create a stronger more robust community to serve whatever needs we are called to serve.
Always, be #KARLSTRONG
Enjoy your June edition of KARL Matters
KARL Office has Moved
KARL Staff have not skipped a beat, working remotely since mid-March. As campus offices begin to open we will continue working remotely and are looking forward to getting settled in our new space.
Just last week the KARL Program moved from its current location in Umberger Hall on the K-State campus to an office suite one floor directly below our old office area. Moving is a great excuse to sort and purge! Often, you will find program treasures like the above photo of Class I during their time in Washington, D.C. But remember leadership isn't a place it's what we do!
The address change is slight, our new address is below. 10E Umberger Hall 1612 Claflin Road Manhattan, KS 66502
A shout-out to Dr. Gregg Hadley, KSRE Extension Director for the newly carpeted and painted space. Stop in and say hello we'd be glad to see you!
